On the day of the procedure, you will be asked to lay down on a bed and the leg will be sterilized. The Saphenous vein in the thigh area will be identified from the knee to the groin. A small amount of a local anesthetic will be injected into the skin and a small needle will be placed in the Saphenous vein.
Through a needle the VNUS Closure Fast electrode will be inserted and directed up to the groin.
When the catheter is in position, radio frequency energy is applied to the
vein and the catheter is gently withdrawn. The radio frequency energy heats up the vein and causes it to collapse. This leads to eventual closure of the vein.
Following the procedure, a bandage is placed over the insertion site, and additional compression is provided to keep the area clean. One is encouraged to walk and resume all normal activities.
You will have your leg wrapped from the foot upward towards your knee, You will leave the wrap on for 24 hours after 24 hours you can take a shower ( Not a bath), when washing do not scrub off the white strips off when you come for the ultrasound the Sonographer will remove them.
What is sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy- Along with surgery, radiofrequency and for treatment of spider veins, occasionally varicose veins, and venous malformations. In ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy a ultrasound is used to visualize the underlying vein so the physician can deliver and monitor the injection. Sclerotherapy often takes place under ultrasound guidance after venous abnormalities have been diagnosed with duplex ultrasound. Sclerotherapy under ultrasound guidance and using microfoam sclerosants has been shown to be effective in controlling reflux from the sapheno-femoral and sapheno-popliteal junctions
